ROCK CLIMBING IN PEÑAS
In recent years, we've worked hard to develop and expand several areas in the red sandstone canyons, all reachable within a 5-20 minute walk from the village. Currently, with over 100 routes of all levels, Peñas is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in Bolivia.
There's also a beautiful multi-pitch area up to 130 meters long. The routes aren't particularly long, but they're perfect for beginners. The rock is consistently excellent, and all the routes are slabs, perfect for practicing technique. It takes about half an hour to reach the wall, but the views of the Cordillera and the beauty of the routes make it worth the effort.
On this page we show just a few of the climbing areas. Visit the webpage with all the routes or download the "La Pirca" app to have the complete guide at your fingertips.

OTHER AREAS TO VISIT IN BOLIVIA:

QUIMSA CRUZ
The Quimsa Cruz area, located southeast of La Paz, is Bolivia's main hub for traditional granite climbing . Characterized by compact walls, sharp ridges, and long, completely unbolted routes, access requires independent logistics and acclimatization, given the average altitude between 4,000 and 5,000 meters. Quimsa Cruz remains relatively unfrequented, preserving its pristine environment and the exploratory nature of the climbs.

VALLE DE LAS ROCAS
El Valle de las Rocas is located in the department of Potosí, at over 4,000 m above sea level, in the Sur Lipez region.
It's a remote, desert-like area, characterized by volcanic rock formations shaped by wind and erosion. The site offers great bouldering potential, with boulders of all shapes and sizes on compact volcanic rock.
The climbing is largely in its infancy. There are numerous boulders with natural lines, suitable for all levels.
Access requires 4x4 vehicles, and the environment is remote, with no services. Complete self-sufficiency and respect for the environment are recommended, as the area is part of a fragile ecosystem and lacks tourist facilities.

ARANJUEZ
The Aranjuez sector is located in the southern part of La Paz, at approximately 3,300 meters above sea level, and is easily accessible from the city. It is a sandstone crag. The routes range from 10 to 25 meters in length, with difficulties ranging from 5a to 8a+.
Aranjuez is a hub for the local climbing community and is often used for training and courses.

POMANI
Pomani is one of the leading areas for multi-pitch sport climbing in La Paz and Bolivia.
With routes up to three pitches and of all difficulty levels, Pomani has more than 50 open routes — and with plenty of potential still to be explored!
It is a highly recommended climbing area for one or two-day excursions, particularly convenient for those arriving from La Paz or Oruro.
